We are proud to launch Why We Dance — a new series of short video interviews with young people living in the refugee camps of Uganda.
These remarkable young people are former child soldiers, captured and released by the Mai Mai rebels. Through traditional dance and music, they are reclaiming their cultural identity, restoring their sense of self, and finding their voice.
Our Musical Ambassador in Uganda, Abaho Gift Conrad, has been building bridges between different tribes in the camps — helping these children reconnect with who they are through the healing power of culture.
In our first video, meet Uwineza, who tells us in her own words why she dances.
We will be sharing a new voice every week. Follow along here on our website, and on Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube.
